Learning German can be much easier when you start with a few simple verbs that you can use in everyday conversations.

In this A1 lesson, you’ll learn five useful German verbs:

sein • haben • gehen • kommen • lernen

Let’s practice them with simple sentences and English translations.

🇩🇪 1. Ich bin — I am

Ich bin means I am.

You can use it to talk about how you feel or where you are.

Examples:

Ich bin müde. → I am tired.

Ich bin glücklich. → I am happy.

Ich bin zu Hause. → I am at home.

Remember:

🇩🇪 2. Ich habe — I have

Ich habe means I have.

It is also used in some common German expressions.

Examples:

Ich habe Hunger. → I am hungry.

Ich habe Durst. → I am thirsty.

Ich habe Zeit. → I have time.

🇩🇪 3. Ich gehe — I go

Ich gehe means I go.

Use it when talking about where you are going.

Examples:

Ich komme means I come.

You can use it to talk about where you come from or when you are coming.

Examples:

Ich lerne means I learn or I am learning.

Use it when talking about studying or learning something.

Examples:

Ich lerne Deutsch. → I am learning German.
