  • 4 cups potatoes, sliced Use evenly sliced for uniform cooking.
  • 1 pound ground beef Can substitute with lean ground turkey or chicken.
  • 1 cup onion, chopped
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese Substitute with other cheese if desired.
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup Can be made homemade if preferred.
  • 1 cup milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large skillet, brown the ground beef with chopped onion. Drain excess fat.
  • In a separate bowl, mix cream of mushroom soup, milk, garlic powder, paprika, and season with salt and pepper.

Layering

  • Layer half of the sliced potatoes in a greased baking dish.
  • Spread half of the ground beef mixture over the potatoes, then half of the cheese.
  • Repeat the layers, finishing with cheese on top.
  • Pour the soup mixture evenly over the casserole.

Baking

  • Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  • Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is bubbly.

Notes

Ensure to check the doneness of the potatoes by inserting a fork. Serve hot for best flavor. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.
