  • 12 ounces penne or rotini pasta Any tubular shape works well.
  • 2 cups chicken broth Homemade or store-bought.
  • 1 cup heavy cream For a lighter version, use reduced-fat cream.
  • ¾ cup honey BBQ sauce Can be homemade or store-bought.
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded Mozzarella or gouda can be substituted.
  • ½ cup diced onions Yellow or white onions work best.
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • to taste salt and pepper Adjust according to personal preference.

Cooking Process

  • Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Sauté diced onions until translucent (about 3-4 minutes).
  • Add sliced smoked sausage and cook until browned (5-6 minutes). Season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Pour in chicken broth and bring to a boil. Add pasta; cook according to package instructions until al dente (8-10 minutes).
  • Reduce heat to low, stir in heavy cream and honey BBQ sauce until well combined. Gradually add cheddar cheese, stirring until melted and creamy.
  • Adjust seasonings if needed and garnish with chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat on the stove with a splash of chicken broth to restore creaminess.
