Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef Browned before adding to the slow cooker.
  • 1 can beans (kidney or black beans) You can choose your preferred type.
  • 1 can diced tomatoes Use high-quality canned products.
  • 2 tablespoons homemade chili seasoning
  • 1 onion (chopped) Adds flavor and texture.
  • 1 bell pepper (chopped) Choose your favorite color.
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Preparation

  • Begin by browning the ground beef over medium heat in a skillet, stirring until it’s fragrant and hints of brown color develop. After about 5-7 minutes, drain the excess fat.
  • Add the browned beef to your slow cooker.
  • Toss in the beans, diced tomatoes, chopped onion, bell pepper, and the homemade chili seasoning.
  • Stir everything well and season generously with salt and pepper.
  • Cover your slow cooker and let it simmer on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours.

Serving

  • Ladle the hot chili into bowls and consider topping it with fresh cilantro, shredded cheese, or a dollop of sour cream.
  • Pair with warm cornbread or crunchy tortilla chips.

Storage

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3-4 days or freeze portions for up to 3 months.
  • Reheat on the stove or in the microwave, stirring occasionally.

Notes

For an added depth of flavor, consider adding a splash of Worcestershire sauce during cooking. If chili is too thick, adjust with beef broth. Taste and adjust salt levels throughout cooking.
